This was my first time truly jumping into the game, and I think these missions are better served to those who have spent some quality time in the solo story. It's not that I'm bad at games it's just that Mafia has a unique feel to its controls. This happened a few more times.īoom goes the bad guy. I tried again, used the toggle-speed option to set my maximum speed to the legal limit, and got over there. I cruised into Chinatown and found the shop I was sent to destroy heavily guarded – and I had passing cops stopping to try and take me down. I murdered him, and this raised my wanted level. As I drove over to the locale I started speeding, and a passing cop tried to be a hero and pull me over. For me, the second one was to drive into Chinatown and shoot up a bunch of shops so that the owners got the message that they shouldn't mess with my boss.
You need to complete that mission before the upper-right timer expires. You pull one off, get a cutscene, and then are dropped back into town to choose the next bite-sized adventure on your map. This is the basic setup for each of these missions. When I made it to the safe house, a score card popped up to let me know how many kills I had racked up and gave me a letter grade. When I climbed in the car and started heading toward the safe house, I could net more points by speeding and drifting. Chain kills together and I'd get a bonus. Pop a guy in the head with my Tommy gun, and a little "+100" would pop up. The addition here was that when I whacked guys, I was getting points. Jimmy was able to take cover on cars, switch weapons with the D-Pad, and so on. This was the Mafia II gameplay we've written about so many times before. My first mission just had me blasting guys and trying to make a getaway. Jimmy ends his spiel by telling you this is the day he gets "f***ed." I didn't get to that part in his story, but I did get to tear around the streets of Empire Bay and whack some fools. The first mission opens with a cutscene narrated by Jimmy as he bashes his car windows, pops dudes and goes through some similarly nefarious acts. Instead, you're Jimmy, a hired thug who only cares about the mission and money at hand. In this pack of quests, you're not going to play as the main character of Mafia II's story.
